Newcastle Jets have won the A-League Premiers' Plate for the first time in 21 years after a 4-0 demolition of arch-rivals Central Coast Mariners. The victory was the Jets' 15th for the campaign, equalling the number they had in 2018 when they last made the finals. Coach Mark Milligan and his playing group were ecstatic after the game, with Milligan saying, 'It's a very, very special feeling. I'm extremely proud of this group and what they've achieved.' The Jets' progress to the semi-final, which will be played over two legs. The first will be away with the home game locked in for Saturday, May 16 at 7.40pm. Tickets are available for members from Tuesday. The Jets have next weekend off and will meet the lowest ranked winner of the elimination finals. Third-placed Auckland meet Melbourne City (sixth) on Saturday (3pm). Melbourne Victory (4th) host fifth-placed Sydney in the other knockout game on Saturday at 7.40pm. If they win the semi-final, the decider will be played at McDonald Jones Stadium, most likely on May 23. 'We know it's going to be another massive challenge, but everything that we do is designed for what is to come, which is ultimately cup football,' Milligan said. 'This week will be again about us and our principles. There's still a little bit to play out before we find out who's the next challenge for us.' Eli Adams, who again starred against the Mariners with a goal and an assist, limped off in the 56th minute but Milligan is confident he will be back for the semi-final.
